1. These cloud formations were seen over the western Aleutian Islands. Their colour variations are probably due to differences in temperature and in the size of water droplets that make up the clouds.

2. Steep-sided volcanic cones on the Chilean-Argentinean border. Of approximately 1800 volcanoes scattered across this region, 28 are active.

3. Twisted fingers of cold ocean waters reach deeply into the mountainous coastline of northern Norway, defining the fjords for which the country is famous. Flanked by snow-capped peaks, some of these ice-sculpted fjords are hundreds of metres deep.
